Humans of TapMango: Claudia

This week we sat down with our incredibly talented graphic designer Claudia Pettigrew. Despite being fairly new to the team she’s quickly found her home here at TapMango and has been creating beautifully branded artwork for our clients. Learn all about this bright and quirky member of our team in our newest edition of Humans of TapMango:

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m one of the graphic designers here at TapMango. I love making art. I grew up in Hamilton Ontario (the Hammer as some like to call it). I was living in Vancouver for the last four years but moved back to Ontario last summer. I also like eating, drinking wine and running, but usually not in that order.

If you could only watch one show for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Honestly, it wouldn’t be a show it would just be the Harry Potter series for the rest of time. I’m a huge Potterhead.

What’s your favourite unusual food?
Sometimes I put hot sauce and mayonnaise on a kraft single and roll it up like a little burrito. If that answer is a little too creepy I’m also a big fan of cottage cheese. I eat it with pineapple for breakfast or just with hot sauce for dinner.

What food could you eat for the rest of your life?
Noodles. All types of noodles, but I definitely prefer ramen.

What would you eat for your last meal?
Ramen.

How many countries have you been to? Which one was your favourite and why?
I have been to a few. I lived in England for my first year of university, so it was pretty cheap to travel from there. My favourite place would have to be Egypt. I went with my family and we saw the pyramids, climbed Mount Sinai and cruised down the Nile.

What’s the next place you want to travel to?
I would like to go to Bali because every person who comes back from there only has wonderful things to say about it.

Teach me something I don’t know in the next five minutes.
Here, hand me that piece of paper, I can make an origami crane.

Do you have a secret talent?
I have this weird ability to pick out flavours and smells in wine. I’m also really good at drinking it…

What do you work towards in your free time?
I make my own cards with watercolour and pen. I also do freelance graphic design for friends or people in my community.

Who is the most influential person in your life?
My mom obviously. I know that’s corny but I think I’m blessed to be able to say that. She has this amazing ability to pour grace and love into every situation and her work ethic and strength is unparalleled – something to aspire to.

If you could have lunch with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?
Probably Harry Potter.

What do you like about working at TapMango?
I love that I get to work on a variety of different projects. I like that I can make clients happy by creating a product that looks exclusively theirs.

What keeps you coming to work everyday? Why are you here?
I come in for the people. The culture here is energetic and fun, but I stay for the work. As I said, it’s very fulfilling to work with so many different merchants and work with them to create a product they can be proud of.

What would you tell someone who wants to be an in-house graphic designer?
Don’t be afraid to challenge the norm and always be looking to improve what you do and how you do it. Also to fall in love with everything you can, whether that’s art or people, food or sports, having passion makes us better people.

Thank you Claudia for your words of wisdom and for the amazing work you do at TapMango. If you’re interested in joining our ever-growing team check out our Careers page.
